The Avantik Optik® H&E Staining System is a complementary set of quality reagents and stains designed to work in coordination with each other to produce consistent, conclusive results in your hematoxylin and eosin staining protocol which will surpass expectations in the lab every time.
The Optik Staining system is designed to produce precise, consistent H&E staining with crisp delineation. Staining times in hematoxylin and eosin will depend on the use and the personal preference of the diagnosing physician. The following are guidelines that will help establish a custom protocol for your specific needs.
Optik Type 2 Recommended Staining Procedure

- Xylene* - 3 minutes
- Xylene* - 3 minutes
- Xylene* - 3 minutes
- 100% Alcohol - 1 minute
- 100% Alcohol - 1 minute
- 100% Alcohol - 1 minute
- 80% Alcohol - 1 minute
- Running H2O Wash - 1 minute
- Optik Hematoxylin - 3-6 minutes
- Running H2O Wash - 3 minutes
- Optik Clarifier - 10-30 seconds
- Running H2O Wash - 1 minute
- Optik Bluing Solution - 1 minute
- Running H2O Wash - 1 minute
- 80% or 95% Alcohol - 30 seconds
- Optik Eosin - 30-90 seconds
- 100% Alcohol - 1 minute
- 100% Alcohol - 1 minute
- 100% Alcohol - 1 minute
- Xylene* - 1 minute
- Xylene* - 1 minute
- Xylene* - 1 minute
Final Step: Mount and Coverslip with Covermount
* Ultraclear may be used in place of Xylene.
Times in Xylene substitutes may need to be extended.
The hematoxylin and eosin stains can have an expected throughput of 2,000-2,500 slides per 500mL bottle. Actual results may vary from lab to lab depending on the staining equipment used, control of carry over into each solution, and length of time stains are left exposed. As a general rule, we recommend changing the hematoxylin and eosin stains once per week if throughput has not been reached. Clarifying and Bluing solutions should be changed more often.
